Marnus Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Team Versus India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a shock call-up.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side following scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a return to the Test side in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Changes

There have been indications of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Returns and Fitness Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a back injury by the time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready specific players for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
